Coastal Watercolor Artist
Inspired by the Jersey Shore & Key West
There is something undeniably special about Cape May, New Jersey. From its colorful Victorian homes and ornate porches to its tree-lined streets and beautiful seaside setting, Cape May feels like stepping into another era.
As a watercolor artist living and working along the South Jersey Shore, I have always been drawn to places with character, history, and architectural beauty. Cape May offers all three, making it a wonderful source of inspiration for my original watercolor paintings and fine art prints.
Cape May is celebrated for its remarkable collection of Victorian architecture. Throughout the historic district, beautifully preserved homes feature intricate gingerbread trim, decorative brackets, colorful shutters, wraparound porches, and distinctive rooflines.
Each building seems to have its own personality.
Some are grand and elaborate, with towers, balconies, and layers of decorative woodwork. Others are charming cottages with welcoming front porches, flower-filled gardens, and architectural details that have endured for generations.
It's these little differences that make walking through Cape May such a visual experience.
And for an artist, there is inspiration around nearly every corner.
Watercolor is a particularly beautiful medium for capturing the atmosphere of Cape May.
The transparency of watercolor allows sunlight to filter through delicate washes of color, while layers of pigment can suggest the shadows beneath a Victorian porch, the texture of historic siding, or the softness of hydrangeas blooming beside a picket fence.
I especially enjoy the relationship between architectural details and the natural surroundings.
A white Victorian building against a brilliant blue summer sky, colorful flowers spilling over a garden fence, or the afternoon sun creating dramatic shadows across a porch can become the starting point for a painting.
Rather than simply documenting a building, I hope to capture the feeling of being there.
Although Cape May is famous for its Victorian homes, the town's character extends far beyond its architecture.
Historic hotels, charming inns, inviting streets, gardens, beaches, and familiar local landmarks all contribute to its distinctive personality.
For many visitors, Cape May is also deeply personal.
It might be the place where they spent childhood vacations, celebrated an anniversary, enjoyed a memorable weekend, or gathered with family year after year.
That's one of the reasons I love painting recognizable places along the Jersey Shore. A watercolor can become more than a picture of a building or landscape. It can bring back a wonderful memory.
Through my artwork, I enjoy celebrating the places that make the New Jersey Shore so memorable, including the historic architecture and coastal charm of Cape May.
My original watercolor paintings are individually created by hand, with attention to the colors, atmosphere, and details that give each subject its character.
Select paintings are also reproduced as fine art prints, allowing collectors and Cape May enthusiasts to enjoy the artwork in their own homes.
Whether displayed in a beach house, a year-round residence, or a favorite reading nook, Cape May-inspired artwork brings a little of the Shore's timeless beauty indoors.
Watercolor paintings and prints also make meaningful gifts for people who have a special connection to Cape May.
A painting of a familiar landmark or historic building can be a lovely housewarming gift, wedding or anniversary present, hostess gift, or reminder of a favorite vacation.
For someone who has spent years visiting Cape May, artwork featuring a beloved place can hold a significance that goes well beyond traditional coastal décor.
And for those who appreciate architecture, history, and original art, a Cape May watercolor offers a distinctive way to celebrate all three.
From the Victorian streets of Cape May to the beaches and coastal communities of Stone Harbor, Avalon, and Sea Isle City, I find endless inspiration in the places that make South Jersey so special.
Each painting is an opportunity to preserve a little of that beauty through watercolor.
If you love Cape May's historic architecture, colorful gardens, and seaside charm as much as I do, I invite you to explore my collection of original watercolor paintings and fine art prints inspired by the Jersey Shore.
