Avalon, New Jersey is one of those shore towns where the smallest places can become part of a family tradition.

A favorite breakfast stop, a quiet library visit, an ice cream cone after the beach — over time, these familiar places become tied to summers, vacations, family memories, and life on Seven Mile Island.

That is one of the reasons I enjoy painting Avalon so much. My watercolor collection is not only about beaches and ocean views. It is also about the local places people remember.

Here are three Avalon landmarks that inspired recent watercolor pieces.

Uncle Bill’s Pancake House

For many families, Avalon mornings begin with breakfast, and Uncle Bill’s Pancake House has become part of that experience for generations of shore visitors.

Its familiar exterior is the kind of scene that immediately brings back memories of summer mornings, family vacations, and time spent on Seven Mile Island.

I painted Uncle Bill’s as part of my Avalon collection because places like this become more than businesses. They become part of the rhythm of a summer.

Avalon Free Public Library

The Avalon Free Public Library represents a quieter side of life at the shore.

For year-round residents and longtime visitors, the library is part of everyday Avalon — a place to read, browse, attend programs, escape the heat, or simply enjoy a slower afternoon away from the beach.

I wanted to include it in my watercolor collection because Avalon is made up of more than just seasonal attractions. It is also a real community with places that people return to year after year.

Avalon Freeze

Few things feel more like summer than stopping for ice cream after a day at the beach.

Avalon Freeze is one of those fun, familiar places that immediately brings to mind warm evenings, flip-flops, family walks, and the relaxed atmosphere of a Jersey Shore vacation.

This watercolor captures that cheerful side of Avalon and makes a nostalgic piece for anyone who associates the town with summers by the sea.

Painting the Places People Remember

One of my favorite things about painting local landmarks is hearing the stories people associate with them.

A painting may remind someone of the restaurant their family visited every summer, the place they stopped after the beach, or a building they passed every day while staying in Avalon.

That personal connection is what makes local art meaningful to me.

My Avalon and Jersey Shore watercolor collection continues to grow with scenes inspired by Seven Mile Island, Stone Harbor, Cape May, and other coastal communities throughout South Jersey.
